The Government announces its acceptance of the People's demand to de-notify the Regional Plan 2011


23rd-25th Jan 2007

Noisy session of the Goa Legislative Assembly. Growing debate with accusations and counter accusations traded by the Treasury and Opposition benches, specailly the Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition


22nd Jan 2007

Chief Secretary invites leaders of GBA for discussions. Requests time till 25 January, 2007, to sek legal opinion on the possibility of retrospective de-notification.


18th Jan 2007

The Goa Government capitulates and decides to de-notify the Regional Plan 2011 but with prospective effect. GBA rejects the sop and demands retrospective effect.


16th Jan 2007

41st anniversary of the historic " Opinion Poll" or referendum to safeguard Goa's independent identity. Public meeting organised at Lohia Maidan by GBA. Turnout of 7,000 tp 8,000 persons. Roads are chock a block.

Public meeting at Taxi Stand,Mapusa, organised by UTTH GOENKARA and organisation led by Amol Navelkar. It is attended by about 1500 persons. GBA leaders and others from North Goa address the people. Exhibition of maps and plans repeated at the venue

The Goa Velha Nagrik Samiti organises a meeting at Goa Velha exclusively addressed by GBA activists. Maps of Goa Velha , Siridao and Bambolim with photos of devastation exhibited


31st Dec 2006

The Doriaveller Lok Shakti, an association of the residents of Odxell and Cacra villages together with the people of Taleigao and GBA hold a march from Oiteant to Taleigao market, past the house of the incumbent Minister for TCP, and hold a meeting in the market square. This is a turning point in the movement.


29th-30th Dec 2006

The exhibition moves ot Mapusa and is co-ordinated by Amol Navelkar and Miguel Braganza the taluka Co-ordinators for Bardez along with Roland, Lorna and Soter De Souza. The Core Group of GBA meets at the exhibition venue on 29 December and a Press Conference is held.


27th-28th Dec 2006

Exhibition of the  maps and other details from the Regional Plan 2011, showing a comaprison between the final draft plan and the notified version at Lohia Maidan, Margao. The focus is on South Goa development plans. Roland Martins of GoaCAN and Lorna Fernandes of Cuncolim Civic & Consumer Forum co-ordinate the exhibition. Press Conference addressed at BPS Club by Shridhar Kamat, Co-Convenor-South Goa.


26th Dec 2006

Public meeting organised by the GBA at the site of one hillside ravaged on the Zuari riverfront by the builders at Bambolim village in Tiswadi taluka. The villagers participate enthusiatically and use thje platform to voice their opinion fearlessly inspite of a large Goa Police 'including' a water-cannon of GFS fire tender and uniformed security service of the builders at the venue. The meeting is peaceful.

SAVE GOA Campaign promoted at the 'Plant Utsav' held at Municipal Garden, Panaji.

The core Group meets to review the Rally of the previous day.


18th Dec 2006

Public Rally at the historic Azad Maidan, Panaji, addressed by persons from different walks of life, called for the de-notification of the Regional Plan 2011. It is a single point agenda of the  SAVE GOA Campaign aka Goa Bachao Abhiyan [GBA]. The rally is attended by 7,000 to 13,000 persons [differing estimates] and 6,648 signatures are received on the Memorandum to the Goa Government calling for the denotification. Exhibition of graphics and maps from the Regional Plan 2011 and Google Earth satellite images of the same sites. Rally is covered by local and national press and electronic media

3rd Dec 2006 Meeting

SAVE GOA Campaign proposal placed before people gathered for a Press Briefing called at Don Bosco hall, Panaji. Dr. Oscar Rebello is chosen as the Convenor with Patricia Pinto as Secretary and Annand Madgavkar as Treasurer. One Joint Convenor each for North & South Goa nominated. The Core Group of members spearheading the movement meets to plan the action.
