GBA Press ReleasesCM Invites GBAGBA PRESS RELEASE 17th Jan ’07: In response to the written invitation extended by the Chief Minister through the Chief Secretary’s office, a delegation of the Goa Bachao Abhiyan (GBA) under the leadership of its Convenor, Dr. Oscar Rebello, with due seriousness and commitment to the cause of scrapping the Regional Plan 2011, went to meet the Chief Minister this evening at the appointed time of 7 p.m. The Chief Minister exhibited the casual attitude of a Politician who has scant regard for the aspirations of the People of Goa. The GBA feels that the invitation extended by the Chief Minister was in response to the massive rallies that were held in Panjim and Margao and also because of the support that the GBA is garnering from all the People of Goa. However, it was most unfortunate that the Chief Minister did not keep to his appointment and the delegation had no choice but to leave, after waiting for 45 minutes. The GBA reiterates its demand for scrapping of the Regional Plan 2011 by denotification because the Regional Plan 2011 has been formulated without any transparency or public participation of the people of Goa. The major stakeholders, i.e. the Gram Sabhas through the Panchayats and the Municipal bodies have been totally ignored. The mandatory pre-requisite as per the 73rd and 74th amendment to the Constitution of India has been thus thrown to the winds while preparing the Regional Plan 2011. The GBA will actively pursue discussions on the Regional Plan with the Government towards categorical, unconditional and immediate denotification of Regional Plan 2011. Goa Bachao Abhiyan |
