GBA Press ReleasesGBA supports Goa University ForumGBA PRESS RELEASE March 8, 2007: The Goa Bachao Abhiyan (GBA) resents the attitude of the Government whereby it seeks to dispossess the Goa University of land meant education and the future of the youth of the State. The Government ought to realize that expansion of educational and allied facilities at the Goa University is of paramount importance if the Goa University is to make a mark as an important centre of knowledge and education in the country and the world. The GBA is shocked to learn that the Government proposes to take over a large chunk of the land allotted to the Goa University at Bambolim ostensibly to set up a Convention Centre which includes commercial activities such as a Five Star Hotel, shopping malls, ballroom with beverage facilities, entertainment alcoves, SEZ, etc. which are in direct contravention to the very purpose for which the land was allotted to the Goa University. This only goes to show that the Government is prepared to go to any extent to cater to the Real Estate lobby and other commercial vested interests while sacrificing the future of the goan youth.
The GBA will strongly oppose this sinister move of the Government to hand over prime public property reserved for educational purpose for commercial exploitation and will not hesitate to mobilize students, teachers, professionals, intellectuals and other like minded people of Goa to stand up and support the agitation of the Goa University forum.
The GBA hopes that the Government realizes its folly in interfering with the future of the Goan youth and immediately withdraws its move to take over the land from the Goa University. Dr.Oscar Rebello GOA BACHAO ABHIYAN |
