2011 Plan opened over 6.80 crore sq mt area for settlement

NT Staff Reporter
Panaji, Jan 23
The Chief Minister, Mr Pratapsingh Rane today informed the House that there has been approximately 6,802 hectares, that is around 7 crore sq mt increase in area in the settlement zone, in Regional Plan 2011 over the earlier regional plan. The areas are approximate as worked out from the regional plan map, he added.

Mr Rane also informed that no environment impact assessment was done before finalising these changes.

The Bicholim taluka has the maximum increase in area in the settlement zone - 974 hectares, followed by Tiswadi taluka (959 hectares) and Pernem taluka (915 hectares). The Sanguem taluka has the least increase in area in the settlement zone - 5 hectares.

The Chief Minister further informed that the draft final plan of the Regional Plan 2011 was prepared by M/s Consulting Engineering Services, New Delhi, on behalf of the government, and was notified under Section 13 of the Town and Country Planning Act. It covered proposals for different sectoral developments including infrastructure, he added.

Further, the Chief Minister said, the Regional Plan is a broad policy document and land use proposals are broad-based. Mr Rane assured the House that the government would nullify the illegal purchases of land and property in the state. “Such land and property would be confiscated,” he added. The Chief Minister further appealed to the Goans not to sell their land. “If there is no sale, there will be no purchases,” he pointed out.
