CRZMA does a volt face on Joggers Park

BY HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, FEB 3
— In a new twist to the controversial Joggers Park at Caranzalem, the Goa Coastal Regulatory Zone Management Authority (CRZMA) has discharged its stay on the project subject to fulfillment of conditions including removal of concrete structures within the ‘No Development Zone.’

The CRZMA which met recently arrived at the decision after perusing the inquiry report submitted by the North Goa District Collector earlier this week.
Chief Secretary J P Singh today said that the CRZMA has taken objections to heavy concrete construction of a part of an amphitheatre planned in the park falling within 100 meter of the No Development Zone.

While the North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) has been asked to demolish what is within the NDZ, it has also been asked to procure a formal licence from the local civic body.

Singh said that as per the CRZ guidelines, the project was on CRZ III. The guidelines however specify permissible use of the area for agriculture, gardens, parks and playfields.

He said that as per the PDA plan, the project is a park “which can be allowed.”

While a small sand pit containment is being allowed, the CRZMA has objected to the heavy concrete construction of the amphitheatre within 100 meters of the NDZ.

“The PDA has been asked to demolish the small bit,” he said adding, that the North District Collector has also been asked to demarcate the area. “Subject to fulfillment of all these conditions we can allow the park,” he said.

The chief secretary also said that the denotification of the Regional Plan 2011 would most probably be issued by Monday.
