Ensure Regional Plan 2011 is scrapped: GBA

HERALD CORRESPONDENT
MAPUSA, JAN 12
— The Goa Bachao Andolan (GBA) on Friday gave a clarion call to all youth to organise themselves to lead a full-fledged agitation against the government to ensure the scrapping of the controversial Regional Plan 2011.Addressing a largely attended public meeting at the Mapusa taxi stand, GBA Convenor Dr Oscar Rebello said the people of Goa are sick of the political system in the State, which is not sensitive to the issues and problems affecting the common man.

Expressing disgust over the attitude of all elected representatives regarding the Regional Plan, Dr Rebello said the future course of the agitation would be out on January 16 at Lohia Maidan in Margao, where a massive meet in planned if the Government does not scrap the Plan by Monday. Dr Rebello urged all Goans to organise themselves to weed out undemocratic and corrupt tendencies prevailing in the government. Former student leader Advocate Satish Sonak castigated political leaders from all parties for their double standards.

He claimed that political parties like NCP and MGP claim that they are in consonance with the GBA to scrap the Regional Plan. “However, neither Deputy Chief Minister Dr Wilfred de Souza (NCP) nor PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar (MGP) have put any sort of pressure on the government to scrap the Plan, lamented Mr Sonak.

Advocate Aires Rodrigues accused Chief Minister Pratapsing Rane of being remote controlled by his son Vishwajeet in taking political decisions.
Noted artist Subodh Kerkar appealed to the people of Goa to wake up from their slumber and take up a “Pishol” (paint brush) to paint Goa green, besides taking up a “Mashal” (fire torch) to burn down the political rogues who plan to convert Goa into a concrete jungle.

Other speakers included Jeevan Mayenkar, Patricia Pinto, Dilip Borkar, Prasad Shahapurkar, Gurudas Narvekar, Soter D’Souza and Sabrina Martins. Mapusa MLA Francis D’Souza and some councillors were also present in the crowd, in a bid to show solidarity with the GBA.
