News ArticlesSEZ Virodhi Manch holds meet at SancoaleNT News Service Margao, Nov 30 Recalling the intense struggle against Nylon 66, where the women had played a crucial role, Ms Swati Kerkar of Keri called upon Goan women to come out in full force against the ill-conceived SEZ policy of the government. Keeping the pressure against the governmentâs SEZ policy and in its bid to create awareness on the issue, the SEZ Virodhi Manch organized a meeting at Sancoale, on Thursday evening. A large gathering of villagers from Sancoale and Cortalim attended the meeting. Insisting that the Deputy Speaker, Mr Mauvin Godinho back his talk, the convenor of SEZ Virodhi Manch said that if at all the Cortalim MLA was with the people on the SEZ issue, he should be prepared to resign and ensure that the controversial SEZ was scrapped from Sancoale. The SEZ Virodhi Manch convenor, Mr Charles Fernandes differed with the Cortalim MLAâs statement that withdrawing notified SEZs may have legal implications. He pointed out that if the RP 2011 could be withdrawn after being notified, so can SEZ. According to Mr Pravin Sabnis of Goa Bachao Abhiyan, Goa Industrial Development Corporation had gifted more land to the Bio Tech SEZ in Sancoale then what they had demanded. He said that documents obtained under the RTI Act revealed that GIDC had given more land to Bio Tech than they had requested in their official application. Dr Francisco Colaco, Mr Damodar Naik, Mr Franky Monteiro, Dr Mavis Faleiro, Fr Eremito Rebello, Mr Simon Carvalho, Fr Maverick Fernandes and Mr Dilesh Hazare spoke on various aspects of the SEZ policy and its impact on Goans. |
