White paper on SEZs by Monday: CM

PANJIM, DEC 14 — Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today said that the white paper on SEZs will be ready by Monday and added that the five-member sub-committee of the Cabinet will study it before taking “an appropriate decision in the interest of the people of Goa”.
Disclosing this after the Cabinet meeting at the Secretariat, the chief minister said that the sub-committee is looking into whether Goa should have SEZs or not and, if yes then how many and where.

Kamat said that the Chief Secretary J P Singh will present a white paper on the SEZs by Monday.
Asked whether the State government has power to scrap the SEZs which have already been notified the Chief Minister replied, if the government has power to notify then there will be equal powers to scrap them also if necessary. “If not we will try to get it scrapped from Centre,” he declared.
Kamat also clarified that the allottees of the land under SEZ projects could not sell the property but lease it out to willing parties under the law.
